Entries in the demo competitions must adhere to the Desktop platform rules expect for the Mobile demo competition in which the Mobile platform rules are applied.
General demo competition rules
- Entry must be delivered in an executable form. Pure animation files are not allowed in realtime competitions. Also executables only including an animation and an animation player will not be accepted.
- The production must work from read-only media and must not modify system settings (f.i. Windows registry). However, you may use the platform's standard temporary directory during the execution of your entry for storing data if such service is available.
- The user has to be able to exit at any time by pressing ESC. In Mobile demo competition, any user input such as pressing a key or touching the screen should exit the application.
- A screenshot image must be submitted with the entry to the competition management system. Width: 133px, height: 100px. Format: PNG
4k intro competition
- Maximum size in executable form is 4096 bytes.
- Intro may not last longer than 3 minutes.
- The production must be a single file. Additional info files are fine but they will be deleted prior running the intro.
- Although not forbidden, we recommend not using import by ordinal for DLLs with non-fixed ordinals to ensure better compatibility.
64k intro competition
- Maximum size in executable form is 64 kB (65536 bytes)
- Intro may not last longer than 5 minutes
Demo competition
- Maximum size in compressed form is 20MB (please submit as a ZIP archive).
- Demo may not last longer than 8 minutes.
Browser demo competition

- Maximum size is 8 MB. The size is calculated after extracting the submitted zip file and before launching the demo.
- Demo may not last longer than 3 minutes.
- The default browser to run the demo is the latest stable version of Opera 9. All authors that wish to use another browser must clearly identify and specify why their demo won't run in Opera/will run better in another browser. To do this, attach a file called JURY.txt with the submission and write your explanation in it (for example: lack of support for a certain standard, showstopper bugs etc.). The most valuable feedback will receive a surprise gift from Opera for helping them to further improve their browser.
- The best entry run in Opera using Open Web Technologies will receive a special prize from Opera Software of 500 EUR. In other words, if your OWT demo wins the compo, you will get both the 1st prize and the Opera special prize. If your OWT demo is 3rd and the 1st and 2nd demos use proprietary technologies, you'll still get the Opera special prize.
- You can use the browser's built-in features like JavaScript, (D)HTML/XML, CSS and SVG/Canvas as well as installed browser plug-ins (specified here). To qualify for Opera's Open Web Technology prize, plug-ins can only be used for sound, and your demo must be shown in Opera.
Mobile demo competition

- You are required to bring your own device to the party place. However, once started the entry must not require any user interaction.
