The following changes were made to the competition rules between Assembly 2006 and Assembly Summer 2007:
- Desktop compo machine specs were updated
- xbox 360 XNA framework platform added
- PS3 / Yellow Dog Linux platform added in other (BYOC) category

- Gamedev compo deadline has been set two weeks before the party: July 15th to comply with the Dream Build Play contest announcement of finalists on the July 17th.
- To improve the video quality on the big screen, it is recommended to have the PC entries to support HD resolution 1280x720p60. The demos will be recorded with a HD recording system and played in that resolution on the big screen. PC entries should preferable support this video mode. Entries not supporting this resolution (including browser entries) will be run with the traditional PAL system.
- The recommended way for presenting Gamedev entries is now a presentation video brought by the author. However, the old way of the authors and organizers recording a presentation is still possible
- Size limit was removed from Music compos as being irrelevant after the bitrate and song length limitations.
- Graphics compo resolution upgraded from 1024x768 to 1280x1024
