WLAN

WLAN hardware

In short, you will need a WLAN card. They come in two major flavours, 11Mbit/s and 54Mbit/s, and both work with the PartyNet WLAN. The WLAN card has to support at least the 802.11b standard.

Network settings

WLAN card functions just the same way than a cable network adapter. There are some wireless-specific settings, which are mandatory to get the WLAN working.

The network name, SSID, is ASSEMBLY
There is no WEP encryption or data security in use, so no passphrases are needed.
Network type is infrastructure or access point, depending of the phrases of your configuration software.

Most WLAN configuration softwares have a scan function, with which the network name and type are set automatically.

NOTE! You will need a PMS Ticket registration code (or a token from Infodesk) for authentication to use the WLAN! After conneting to the WLAN, open your browser and follow instructions given there.

WLAN services at Assembly in general

Well, frankly put, WLAN is supported but not with large amounts of Access Points (AP). We will cover some areas with APs, but do NOT take it for granted that you will get WLAN connectivity in all areas. Also, if you get the connectivity, the quality is propably quite poor. Why? We expect more people to come with laptops this year. The AP instrastructure is close to the one we had last year, might be lower. Adding more users... well do the math. The task of covering the space like Hartwall-Areena with good WLAN coverage is very painfull and time consuming, we just don’t have the time to do that for just for four day party.

Simply put: do not except full WLAN coverage nor very good WLAN service. If you want good connectivity, get a computer place with fixed network connection (10-100 Mbps). We do not guarantee any WLAN services or their levels.

And we would like to remind you at this point that having your OWN WLAN access points or service points is strictly forbidden. They will eat a lot the functionality of the WLAN that is built by us.
