Jaywink (Bass Heroes)
Homepage: http://www.myspace.com/jaywink
Jason aka Jaywink found his interests in electronic music in the early 90's through the likes of The Orb, Prodigy & 808 State. With a first club gig in early 2000 Jason rapidly worked his way into the Finnish DJ'ing scene. With earlier sets predominantly filled with club house, Jason moved through various phases and movements of music. It was between these styles that he found his roots again within broken beat & breakbeat... the sounds that initially lured him into electronic music.
At the end of 2002, Jason was taken as a resident DJ in the organisation Children Of Dub. A niche organization devoted to promoting breaks parties in southern Finland. The residency helped Jason establish himself further and saw him regularly spinning at events around Finland. With gig's in some of Helsinki's legendary clubs like 'Kerma', 'Rosegarden', 'M-Bar' and 'Gloria' to name a few, Jason was quickly booked for gigs in some of St. Petersburgs finest clubs.
Since 2004 Jason has been promoting his own club nights under the name Bass Heroes. This was a project that Jason started solo for promoting his passion for breaks... but grew to an organization consisting of several DJ's. The birth of Bass Heroes had one thing in mind: To promote regular breaks/drum'n'bass events in southern Finland. With a list of successful nights, Jason's visions quickly came true!
Depending on the mood of the venue, Jason's sets roll from full on bass heavy Breaks to the hardest Drum'n'Bass to a more down tempo Broken Beats. One thing is for sure, Jason ensures that there's Bass, and plenty of it!
Thomas (Sequence, Stockholm)
Thomas has been playing records for almost 10 years. His style is usually old trance, but this time he plays an improvised set of new and old electronic music.
Gr (Spinni)
Gr is a Finnish dj originating from Kuopio, nowadays living in Tampere. In spite of style the most describable things you hear in his dj-sets are rolling, groovy and melodic elements. These and his demoscene history have influenced a lot of the wibes of his psychedelic dj-sets which varies from melodic to really dark and crazy jungle sounds.
DJ Daemon (Belgium)
Homepage: http://myspace.com/daemon_dj
In 2000, dj daemon decided to participate to a dj contest called "djmania", an initiative of the belgian province "Limburg" and "Four in trance". Out of more than 69 contestants, 16 half finalists and 8 finalists he came out as winner with a mix of hard techno with electro influences. Dj Daemon was called one of the most promising djs from Limburg.
From then it evolved fast, he played at bigger venues like Rock herk (2x), Enterrock, City Parade, Spontaniously Combustible, Konektionz, Happy, Silo, MOD and he can add clubs like Fuse, TheZoo, Katsu, Bunker, Zazou and more to his list .
Due to his broad taste in music it was easy to fit in very different theme-nights and gave him the chance to play with artists like Funk d'Void, Phil Kieran, FC Kahuna, Big Hair, Darren Roach, Jack de Marseille, St-Dic, Smos & Baby B, Koenie (Mayaku), Les Craven, Level J and at harder nights with Ben Long & Jamie Bismire, Luke Slater, Darren Price, Michel de Hey, Paula Temple, Ladida, dj Funk, Redhead, Stanny Franssen, Tomaz, Psychogene, Xentrix,.....
Because of his high technical skills he was asked to give dj lessons in the dj lab of Muziek-O-Droom in Hasselt. For about 7 years now dj Daemon gives these lessons, teaching starting djs the tricks and techniques of djing, midi-controllerism,...
Nowadays he plays in Holland and Belgium and is spending a lot of time on production.
Byproduct LIVE (SceneSat / Etana)
Homepage: http://byproduct.koshiyoka.com/
Byproduct is a one-man musical act that takes its roots from computer games and demos and combines them with the elements of contemporary electronic music - mainly psytrance, acid and drum'n'bass - creating an easily recognisable sound unique to Byproduct alone. The music is sometimes cheery, sometimes dark, but always with a twist to hold the attention and the interest of the listeners all the way to the end.
Nitro (X-Rust)
Nitro has been playing records since 1999, when there were mostly hard house/hard trance records spinning on the turntables. During years 2002-2005 he organized clubs (Trap, Pimiö, Forge, Metro) and "Anchors Up!" summer club cruises in Jyväskylä. Nowadays he is busy with The X-Rust Organization, which has had their own stage in every Konemetsä festival, for example. Nitro's current style consists mainly of electro, breakbeat and techno in all of it's forms. In Asm'09 rave he will provide one hour load of proper 808 electro bass fatties.
Alek Szahala (Finrg)
Homepage: http://www.myspace.com/alekszahala
Although having produced music for more than 10 years Alek Száhala is a relatively new name in the international scene. Still he has truely been one of the key players in the recent development of the new wave of Finnish Hard Dance.
Since his explosive forthcoming in 2003 with tracks like 'Superstition' and 'Tlaloc' he has made a deep impact to both Finnish and international crowds and djs with dozens of amazing tracks.
Since 2005, Alek has spred the Finrg plague not only in Europe, but also in "The New world". His most important gigs have been at such events as Mayhem (Brisbane), Pharmacy (Melbourne), Utopia (Sydney), NRGetic Romancer (Tokyo), Neverland (Québec), Logic (London) plus lots of major events in Finland like Koneisto and Säde. He has succesfully created a production style of original sound - Hyperenergetic beats combined with a strong emotional charge creates a memorable and unique atmosphere.
Alek Száhala has been voted 4th best in the artist / producer category in Finnish Club Awards 2003 and 2004.
Glxblt (Sequence)
Being brought up in a family deeply involved with music, Ville Rastas a.k.a "Glxblt" spent most of his childhood happily bashing both the keys of his piano and his computer. However, as the young musician/geek reached his puberty, things went horribly wrong. Despite the classical training and responsible parenting, Glxblt developed an interest for electronic music which later on evolved into full-blown love for techno and especially drum'n'bass. Finding like-minded people in a small Finnish city was practically impossible, but eventually it happened and Glxblt made the first contact within the neighbouring town's rave scene and coincidentally, the demoscene.
Since then the young junglist has honed his skills in producing and DJ'ing, focusing on the darkest, techiest newschool drum'n'bass you can find without forgetting about the rolling, danceable beats that define the genre. Filling in the demand for harder, heavier drum'n'bass, Glxblt is a bundle of big things just waiting to happen.
Takomo (Audiogore, Urban Graffiti)
Homepage: http://myspace.com/tak0m0
Takomo is a music production unit formed by Pekka Kokkonen and Otto Hassinen, two fine Finnish young men from Finland. Their roots lie somewhere in dark and futuristic drum'n'bass of the late 90's, but since starting out in 2002 the two have gotten their hands dirty with the various flavours of breakbeat and dubstep.
The boys have been releasing music on labels like Fusetrax, Botchit Breaks, Trans:verse and Destructive recordings and those releases have been supported by the likes of Annie Nightingale, Tayo, Jay Cunning and Baobinga. Recently their track was picked by Mr No Hands to be the "breaks tune of the month" for Mixmag UK.
One could describe their music with words such as cold and futuristic without being too wrong. Takomo's productions usually balance somewhere in between dark and light, with emphasis on hard hitting beats and basslines, but also on detailed atmospherics you can literally sink into. Sometimes the nerds also crawl out from their bedroom studios to provide a careful selection of breaks and dubstep, with a touch of electro, techno and glitch.
K.Larm & J.Raninen LIVE (Acid - Communiqué records)
Homepage: http://www.myspace.com/cassu77
It was year 2001 when K.Larm & J.Raninen project started in Finnish town called Jyväskylä located in the heart of middle-Finland.
Project was born some year or so after K.Larm and J.Raninen had met almost by accident while K.Larm was releasing his new music.
Pretty soon after meeting, both men started to spend quite a lot of time in J.Raninen's and T.Kesäniemi's studios. In early stages T.Kesäniemi (from Healium -project) was jamming along and helping the guys while in studio session.
All early stage studio sessions were based on improvisation and the purpose was just to spend some quality time with friends and the beloved TB-303's.
Idea of starting this collaboration was built up pretty soon after these improvisation based studio sessions. At first the project was more like just spending time and composing music as two guys who both had a bit different style to compose electronic, acid and techno music.
After releasing the first four tracks as "Acidcode Project", Larm & Raninen kept some well-deserved time off. Few months went by and then was time to think what should be done next. Raw but true, spoken topic contained just two options; either to bury the project or go to the next level. As you might already guess, Larm & Raninen decided to shift up to the next gear.
Since few other projects using the same "Acidcode Project" name was found to exist, decision was made to change the name to a shorter "ACP". However this shortened name did not feel good, so it was finally changed to "K.Larm & J.Raninen" in the late of 2007.
It's admitted, that nowadays K.Larm & J.Raninen is much more serious project than in the early days. Main goal is still the same; to compose rather quality than average tracks. Both members also remind that one of the main things is still to combine the fun aspect and love to the TB-303's sound. "If it's not fun anymore, it's over!".
Kaj Larm and Jouni Raninen have both been making music in studio and live several years.
Kaj "Cassu" Larm has been composing electronic music since 1990. It all started in 1988 with the legendary Commodore 64 (which is still used by him), but later on Amiga 500 came along with those neat trackers... Nowadays Amiga has been changed to real synth gear. However, Amiga is still resting in the closet... K.Larm is and has been a part of several different music projects. Some live gigs is being performed every now and then.
Jouni Raninen has been composing electronic music for long long time. J.Raninen is also the other half of the project called "Healium". Healium is a long perioid Finnish Acid act, and its material has been released through SKELETOR RECORDS (Finland) and DJAX-UP-BEATS (Netherlands). J.Raninen is and has been a part of several different music projects. Some DJ- and live gigs is being performed every now and then.
DJ Proton (TonTesT, Germany)
Homepage: http://myspace.com/rotor23
Based in the german City of Cologne (Köln) DJ Proton is spinning records for 13 years now. His style is best described as thrilling, pumping, banging hard Techno, but once you're on the dancefloor music speaks louder than words.
During Protons early years of Techno Jeff Mills was dominating the DJ and Producer polls, so after checking some playlists Detroit soon became a strong influence on the way Proton interpreted Techno and he started to travel around Germany to see DJs like Claude Young, Jay Denham, Juan Atkins, Derrick May or Jeff Mills himself on the rare occasions they played.
Detroit had more to offer. Not only the sound, but also the thoughts and concepts of Mike Banks from Underground Resistance, dealing with topics as independence from Major-Labels and criticism of goverment indoctrination impressed Ex-Punker Proton sustainable and encouraged him to become a DJ himself.
During the time the influences grew: Dj Rush, Dave Clarke, Dj Kammy, Ben Sims, Chris Liberator, Miss Djax, ViperXXL, PET Duo, Sandy Warez, Boris S, Sven Wittekind, Robert Natus - just to name a few.
On his way Proton played a lot at parties in abandoned houses, barns and factorys and also the Clubs of his hometown Cologne, Germany (Artheater, Bogen2, Sensor Club, Gloria, Gebäude 9, Kunstwerk) and in 2009 at the Butan Club in Wuppertal (Hart aber Herzlich).
2008 he already had a gig and lots of fun at Tundra, the biggest baltic electronic music festival, where his curiosity for crowds in foreign countrys awoke. Gigs in Rome (Colocon Circus, EKOrulez), Barcelona (Guerilla Basement), London (Hard Party Production) and Vilnius (Blitzkrieg IV) followed and there are more to come.
Trisector (Med School, Science Hki)
Homepage: http://myspace.com/trisectorfi
At the tender age of 12, Otto Hassinen aka Trisector was creating music way beyond his years. Influenced by the sounds of The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and LTJ Bukem he was already experimenting with all styles of electronic music using samples and tracker software. After a voyage of musical discovery taking him through the realms of punk rock, indie, dub techno and IDM, Otto quickly found himself primarily listening to and creating d&b. However, still fascinated by a wide variety of music, he unleashed his first release in 2004 as one half of Finnish breakbeat/dubstep duo Takomo. Aided by DJ support from breakbeat heavyweights Annie Nightingale and Tayo, nine Takomo vinyl releases followed on labels such as Botchit.
It wasn't until the back end of 2007 that Otto rekindled his relationship with drum & bass and began redeveloping his sound under the name Trisector. His production is now as calculated and complex as the mathematical theorem from which he gets his d&b alias. He quickly caught the attention of Blu Mar Ten, Muffler, Resound, Fanu, Asc and Physics before his music reached the ears of Chris Goss from Hospital Records.
In the beginning of 2009 Trisector released his debut 12" on Med School containing tracks called "Morning Rain" / "Structured Light". He also has music lined up for release on labels like Levitated, Lightless and Vampire, and he's keeping busy in his bedroom studio working on new tracks and also collaborations with different artists as well as on fresh Takomo material. The future is looking bright and busy for this young Finnish broken beat enthusiast.
