Desktop platforms
Following competitions are available for the desktop platform:
You may target your production for the PC or bring any other device within the same performance range. Information about the specific computing platform will be shown on the big screen.
PC
The competition machine will be a high-end PC with a powerful graphics card and a total budget of one thousand two hundred euros (not including keyboard, mouse or display).
- A Fast quadcore CPU
- 4 GB of RAM
- One of the competition machines will have a high end (native DX10, PS4.0 supporting) ATI Radeon display adapter, and the other is equipped with a high end nVidia GeForce. Your production MUST work on both computers but you can request the entry to be recorded on specific platform. Should you wish to use this option please include a file called JURY.txt with your entry. It is possible to test your demo on the competition machine before the deadline – go to the Infodesk and ask for CompoCrew.
- nVidia graphics adapter will support CUDA
- DirectX 9/10 compatible sound device
- The entry must support either 800x600, 1024x768 or 1280x720p60 resolutions.
- It is highly recommended to have the entry to support 1280x720p60 resolution. This is to increase the image quality on the big screen and to move the demoscene to HDTV era.
- It is recommended to have the entry to support following 4:3 and 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios and resolutions:
- 1024x768 pixels (4:3 screen aspect ratio)
- 1280x720 pixels (16:9 screen aspect ratio)
- 1280x800 pixels (16:10 screen aspect ratio)
We will have two operating system options. Please state in the JURY.txt on which version you wish to run your demo:
- Windows XP Pro (32 bit) SP3
- Windows Vista (64 bit) SP2
The setup includes latest stable versions (as they are available two weeks prior start of the event) for:
- DirectX end user runtime in Windows XP
- Stable display drivers from ATI / nVidia
- Java and Microsoft .NET runtime environments
- Macromedia Flash (version 10) and Shockwave player plug-ins
- Microsoft Silverlight player plug-in
- Unity3D web player plug-in (please note that the approximate size of the plugin 3,5MB is added to the size of your compo entry)
- Java 3D from Sun Microsystems
- Opera, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox
You may assume that Visual Studio runtime libraries (msvcr70.dll, msvcr71.dll and msvcr80.dll) and DirectX DLLs (d3dx9_24.dll to d3dx9_40.dll) are available.
Other
Competitions on this platform are open for other commercially available personal desktop computing devices within the same performance and price range. This includes but is not limited to:
- Apple Macintosh
- Commodore Amiga
- PC within the same performance range and running some other OS. We will have latest stable version of Ubuntu installed to help with recording but you should still bring your own installation to make sure that everything works.
- Sony Playstation 2, PS3/Yellow Dog Linux, Sega Dreamcast, Microsoft Xbox, Xbox 360 (also with XNA-framework)
You are responsible for bringing the required hardware to the party place and making it available for us during the juries and recording of the competition entries. You need to contact us for approval of your device at least one week prior to the party.
