Oldskool platforms

Following competitions are available for the Oldskool platform: Oldskool demo, Extreme graphics, and Extreme music.

General Oldskool platform rules

The following rules apply to all entries running on Oldskool platforms:

  • All entries that are run on a real oldskool-hardware need to be submitted to PMS with their respective name, credit, platform information etc. AND delivered with a physical media (floppy, etc.). We will NOT accept any entries that are not in both PMS and on physical media.
  • For entries that are recorded/run on a modern PC (emulators/sidplayers not included!) one PMS submission is enough.
  • The PMS submission must be an Internet-distributable version of the competition entry (see competition rules for details). However, in the competition, the entry must run on real hardware.

Allowed platforms

All platforms commercially available prior to and including December 31st 1991 are accepted to the compo. Possible platforms include e.g.

  • Commodore 64
  • PCs up to PC/386 (e.g. 80386/33MHz)
    • Update! Gravis Ultrasound -soundcard now accepted as oldskool hardware.
  • Amiga 500 (e.g. with 512kB memory expansion)
  • Atari ST

  • Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)

Bringing your own device

If your entry requires a device not listed above in supported platforms, you have to bring the computer with you. We expect you to bring such hardware to the party place, attend the competition juries and the recording of qualified entries. Please contact us in advance for detailed instructions.

Protracker modules

We allow Protracker MODs in Extreme music competition. Rules for the MOD entries are:

  • Only ProTracker MOD formats are accepted. Absolutely no ITs, XMs, or anything else than MODs.
  • Maximum amount of channels is 4.
  • Maximum file size is 32 kB (32768 bytes) in playable, uncompressed form.
  • All tunes will be played with latest version of DeliPlayer with the default settings.

Emulator issues

Entries in the oldskool competitions must run on REAL hardware. You may use emulators to aid the development process, but in the competition you must be able to run it on the machine itself.

Below is a brief list of emulators for those of us who don't have all the platforms easily available for viewing the entries.
